Introducing The Movement of Joy
It is an ongoing practice aimed to amass joy testimonials that meditate on remembering and understanding the movement histories that live in our physical bodies through performance, film, writing, archiving, and oral traditions.
The Move Your Joy Campaign
Join us from February 5, 2023 -March 5, 2023 for our Movement of Joy Campaign in partnership with the Community Health Center of Buffalo. Each morning a new song will be added to the “Joy” playlist on Spotify for you and your family to dance and move.
Our services
Artist Talk
The Movement of Joy Artist Talks combines Professor Ansari's in-depth research on joy and social justice work. While bridging the arts and advocacy for social change, these talks engage, share knowledge, and end with an interactive performance. Every Artist Talk will cater to the needs of the organization and the community they serve.
Please fill out the contact section "Artist Talk" for requests and costs.
Residencies
Interviewing the community you wish to share and archive their joy. Naila will interview each community member and work with The Movement of Joy Media team to produce a short film. There is also an option to develop a book for the community of photographs and transcribed interviews.
Please fill out the contact section "Residency" for requests and costs.
Producing Projects
From project managing to producing. The movement of joy has a host of networks and artists to help bring your production to life, from film to live performance. We help you bring your joy to life while also making sure you keep ownership of your artistic vision. Contact movementofjoyllc@gmail.com.
Workshops
Workshops are sculpted based on the community, organization, or institution's needs. The Movement of Joy has choreography workshops producing a performance work, dance workshops for classes and investigation of The Movement of Joy practice, and writing workshops based on the freestyle joy practice of The Movement of Joy artist Marquis "Ten Thousand" Burton.
Please fill out the contact section "Workshops" for requests and costs.
Performances
Creating performance with phenomenal and talented The Movement of Joy artists, this show will feature a guest artist(s) in the community the commission will serve. There will need to be a minimum of two days to work with the community artist(s) to create a full performance. Each show will build upon audience participation, previous interviews from The Movement of Joy archive y, and the artists' shared joy through their mediums.
Please fill out the contact section "Performance" for requests and costs.

Our Approach
Movement of Joy curates and facilitates conversations and performances for social change through the art and research of joy developed by founder Naila Ansari. The company serves local, national, and international communities through various services, including workshops, artist talks, educational curriculums, performances, and film. Through works created with art partner Marquis “Ten Thousand” Burton and Movement of Joy artists, we work as a collective to make visible the joy of people in the community.
Choreography of Black Women Joy
Developed from interviews with Black women in Buffalo, New York, on the topic of joy. I began to develop the collection and archiving of joy through performance.
